A Personal Journey That Sparked a Mission
Hi, I’m Jake Anderson — founder of RVA Homeowner, husband, dad of two boys, originally from Roanoke, and proud to have called Richmond home for over 11 years.
Since 2011, my wife and I have bought 4 homes and sold 3 that ranged from a first-time purchase to relocation, new construction build, and a full-on fixer-upper. Each experience came with its own set of challenges and decisions, revealing just how complex and layered homeownership can be.
One thing became clear:
Owning a home is incredibly rewarding, but it comes with a learning curve that’s easy to underestimate.
Financing, weighing buying and selling decisions, working through repairs / renovation, maintaining your home, and understanding long-term value, there’s a lot that goes into being a well-informed homeowner.
That realization led me to start RVA Homeowner; a purpose-driven project built to elevate the homeowner experience through education, a trusted network of professionals, and innovative solutions to help you every step of the way.

How I Plan to Support Homeowners & the Industry
RVA Homeowner is a long-term project built in phases, each one designed to explore, learn, adapt, and eventually scale. My goal is to identify real market needs and either develop solutions or partner with the right experts to fill the gaps.
Here’s how the journey is unfolding:
Exploration (current phase)
Right now, the focus is on understanding the real estate agency and home services space from the inside out. That means spending time with the people who power this industry to build relationships and observe where the biggest needs exist.
To open access on the buy/sell side, I obtained my real estate license in August 2025. I’ve since attended open houses, joined sales meetings, and even coordinated an offer my first month of being licensed. Through that experience, I gained a new appreciation for the level of responsibility and dedication required to be a great agent...and have met some great ones along the way, you'll find them in our Pro Network ;)
At this time, I’m not operating as a Realtor. However, I’m maintaining my license as I continue exploring ways I can best support Richmond homeowners and the professionals who serve them. That direction is still taking shape, with a few more phases to work through before solidifying the core focus.
On the homeowner side, we'll continue the mission of providing you with greater clarity and removing as much friction as possible through homeowner decisions.
This starts with the Pro Network; the trusted experts who help you move, maintain, and improve your home. Each feature in our Pro Directory gives you more than just basic contact info. You'll find insight into the services they offer, the experience they provide, and the expertise they bring to their work.
This network is still growing and will take time to build out fully. The goal is to showcase the deeper value these professionals offer, especially for homeowners who want to feel confident about who they’re hiring to work on their home—often your most valuable asset.
From there, we'll create resources that help solve for specific needs across your homeowner journey. This could be anything from a helpful guide or checklist to a specialized service we co-created with one of our pros. Our newsletter subscribers will know first about the latest on these new resources. If you want to stay in the loop, this is the best way (subscribe in the footer below).
Adaptation
Once a clear model and market fit emerge, the next step is adaptation—intentionally aligning time, money, energy, and skills around what’s working.
This is where the shift begins: moving from experimentation to execution.
With proof of concept in place, it’s time to start building systems that support sustainable growth. That means prioritizing the right activities, documenting repeatable processes, and making strategic decisions about where to focus effort and resources.
It’s a transition phase that asks: How do I support this model without burning out or bottlenecking progress?
Stage 1 is about proving a model.
Stage 2 is about structuring around that model.
Stabilization
Once core systems are in place, the next focus is stabilization; stress-testing operations to make sure they hold up under real conditions.
This phase is all about refining and reinforcing what’s been built. As the business starts to take on more volume or complexity, things will inevitably break or fall out of sync—and that’s expected. The goal here is to identify weak spots, fine-tune workflows, and ensure everything is aligned both operationally and personally.
Stabilization is also a gut check moment. It’s the time to step back and ask: Is this business model still aligned with the vision as well as the life I want to build?
Before scaling, it’s critical that the foundation feels solid—both in process and purpose.
Stage 1 is about proving a model.
Stage 2 is about structuring around that model.
Stage 3 is pressure-testing and optimizing the system so it’s ready to scale.
Scale
Once the foundation is solid, the systems are tested, and the direction is clear, the focus shifts to scale—expanding impact without compromising what works.
At this point, RVA Homeowner will likely look very different from where it started—and that’s by design. Growth here isn’t just about doing more; it’s about doing it better, for more people.
The brand and platform will be shaped by the community, collaborators, and real-world feedback that helped bring it to life. Scaling means doubling down on what’s proven, while staying responsive to what’s next.
With strong systems in place, the business can grow responsibly.
Stage 1 is about proving a model.
Stage 2 is about structuring around that model.
Stage 3 is pressure-testing and optimizing the system so it’s ready to scale.
Stage 4 is growth and scaling the impact.
